Sylvester - Adopted

Name: Sylvester
Age: 2 -3 years (good samaritan's guess)
Sex: Male (not altered)
Breed: Looks like Border Collie
Location: Louisville, KY area (southern IN)

Vet Info: Sylvester has not been vetted.  He weighs about 40 - 50 pounds.

Owner Info: Sylvester (named by his good samaritan's children) was abandoned in a neighborhood and fell into a yard. They tried to help him out through the gate, but he was terrified and ended up running into the brick wall.  His good samaritans realized he's blind and don't want to bring him to the shelter.  They cannot keep him, and they are desperately hoping for rescue for him.  They tell us he is very sweet!   Sylvester seems to be completely blind.  They really want to help Sylvester and gave us more details:  "The pad on one of his front paws looks torn & he is limping around because of it. I also think he may have been beaten before, just because of how he acts. He gets scared & starts running into things if there are more than 2 people near him. He also got scared the first time he heard a man's voice & when he heard the jingle from the clip on the leash. His fur is matted. He has now been in my backyard for 4 days & is in desperate need of a home. We don't have the time or money to take care of him the way he needs & deserves to be taken care of." Sylvester is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard, he is not housebroken or leash trained.  He is described as nervous and shy.  Since they've had him, he has shown no aggression and is not possessive of toys, treats, or food.  They write, "He seems like a very sweet & loving dog! In the few days that we've had him, we haven't seen any bad behavior." In the few days they've had him, Sylvester has made good progress. He sounds like a real sweetheart!  Please read more of his story below when we asked if they knew how Sylvester was with others, "I checked no on a lot of the questions on that form that I didn't know the answers to since he's only been with us for a few days. Yes, that is also why I didn't check him being good with children, men or male dogs. My kids have only been outside with him for a few minutes at a time, but he does seem to be good with them. They are 7 & 11 yrs old. He doesn't interact with them much though, because he seems to get freaked out with more than one person around. He still does okay with two people, but kind of backs away like he doesn't feel totally comfortable. As far as with men, when my husband first interacted with him, he seemed scared when he heard his voice, but in the past day or so has started following him around when he's cutting grass or doing yard work. I do think he's good around men, just maybe scared at first until he knows they won't hurt him. I don't know at all how he is around male dogs, because I haven't seen him interact with them yet. In the few days that he's been with us, we haven't seen him snap or even growl at anyone, including our dog, even the first day when he was really scared & injured. Also, his paw seems to be healing up pretty well. We didn't do anything with it, but he is walking on it a lot better now than what he was a few days ago. Then, he would barely let it touch the ground when he walked. Now, he is walking on it with a slight limp. He seems to be a very well-behaved dog despite the rough life he seems to have had so far. Thank you so much for all your help!"
