Sport - In BDRA Foster Care

Name: Sport
Age: Approximately 3-4 years old
Breed: Shih Tzu
Sex: Male (not altered)
Location: Northeast Georgia

Vet Info: Sport received Da2pp and Intranasal Bordetella vaccines 9/4/2012.  Sport had fecal and heartworm tests on 9/11/2012, both were negative, and he also received one year rabies vaccine on 9/11/12.  Shelter paperwork indicates that Sport has bilateral KCS (most likely dry eye) with corneal scarring.  Sport weighs 12 pounds.  He is currently on Heartguard.

Owner Info: Sport was pulled from a Georgia shelter before it was known that he had a serious vision problem. She was told only that he had an eye infection and dry eye that would clear with treatment.  She has been treating him for 6 weeks and unfortunately, sees only a little progress.  He seems to have some vision in bright light but none in the dark. She's planning on having Sport checked by her vet within the next few weeks to re-evaluate his eyes and make recommendations for further treatment.  She works 40+ hrs a week and cannot give him the daily care he needs.  Sport gets around well and has learned to go from the back yard to the front and up the steps to the door without bumping into anything.  Sport is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard.  He is not housebroken, but is leash trained.  He is good with both men and women, and male and female dogs.  He is a sweet boy, although is food aggressive and will snap at another dog or hand that interferes while he eats.  Sport also has minor skin issues that are almost clear, and bilateral ear infections that are also being treated.  She adds that Sport is a happy, sweet little boy!  Because she works 40+ hrs a week and always has several other rescue fosters, Sport does not get the personal time he needs.  Considering his personality and ability to adapt, she thinks he would thrive in a home without so many obligations.
