Sam - Adopted

Name: Sam
Sex: Male (altered)
Age: Two years old approximately
Breed: Boxer
Location: Northwestern Georgia

Vet Info: Sam is confirmed nuetered and current on vaccines.  He is due for Bordetalla vaccine on 2/9/2013, and next due for rabies on 8/9/2013.  He is due for DHPP on 8/9/2015.   Sam is formerly heartworm postive, but has been treated.  The vet believes he was born blind. He is very comfortable with his blindness, it really seems like he doesn't know anything else.  Sam weighs 61 pounds.

Owner Info: Sam is a very handsome blind boxer who has been with his current rescue for quite some time, and they've been unable to adopt him out.  They're hoping that we'll have a place for Sam so he can find the home that he deserves!  Sam was originally pulled from a kill shelter.  Sam is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken if taken out frequently (he loves to drink water), and leash trained.  His foster mom notes that Sam is incredibly affectionate, he approaches every person with kisses and a hug. He has been loving to the few children he has met and ignores cats.  He LOVES belly rubs - it's like magic on him, a belly rub will immediately calm him and make him sleepy.  Sam is good with men and women, and both male and female dogs, but they note that he only gets along with very gentle, quiet (not snarly), submissive dogs, since he is afraid of dogs who are very vocal, whether playful or not.  He does live with two other boxers (a male and female). His foster mom says that he gets along beautifully with her gentle, submissive male. They love to wrestle and cuddle together, and he also got along great with a very young, playful, submissive female at a temp foster's home. They wrestled the whole weekend.  Several months ago, Sam was adopted out and returned 8 days later.  His foster mom notes that he came back a much more defensive dog. They believe the adopter's dog snapped and snarled continually. Unfortunately, there was one fighting incident the day after he was returned, but now Sam has free roam of the house again. Sam's foster mother writes, "We absolutely adore little Sam and would absolutely keep him if it weren't for our senior female who is not a fan (she really does not like any other dogs in her home, but especially a blind boy who runs into her and steps on her while she's sleeping). Everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He is incredibly affectionate and terribly funny. We really wanted to see him through to his forever home and are heartbroken to have to look for an alternative for him.I understand you are full and may not be able to take him. Regardless of the outcome, thank you for considering Sam".
