Xena - Staying With Owner

Name: Xena
Age: Approximately 1 1/2 years
Breed: Coonhound Mix?
Sex: Female (altered)
Location: Houston, TX

Vet Info:  Xena is confirmed spayed and up to date on vaccines.  She is next due for her rabies vaccine on 3/27/18.  She is heartworm negative.  Xena weighs about 52 pounds.

Owner Info:  Xena is a beautiful girl who was rescued from a shelter.  She was going to be euthanized due to her severe eye injury.  Her caregiver cannot afford to keep her, and also writes that she needs a larger yard and more exercise than he can give her.  He is very much hoping for a new home or rescue for sweet Xena.  Xena's owner gave us more info about her eye conditions:  "Xena was picked up by the city animal control with her left eye hanging out on a Friday. Due to the severity of her injury she was going to be euthanized. She seemed so sweet, I rescued her. I volunteer with a local rescue & raised money through them to have her eye removed, get her spayed & vaccinated. The vet thinks she have very limited vision in her 1 eye."  Other than that, he says Xena is very healthy. Xena is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken but not leash trained.  She knows the commands sit and stay!  Xena is described as outgoing, and she's good with people of all ages and both male and female dogs.  She currently lives with several other dogs. Xena is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never bitten or snapped.  Her owner writes that when she's in a cage at Petsmart for an adoption event, she will sometimes bark at other dogs walking by, but "I do not think it is aggression, just fear of not knowing the dog. When relatives have come to visit & brought their dog(s), she welcomes them at home."  Her caregiver feels that she adapts well to new situations. Xena is a very sweet little girl!  Her caregiver wants us to know, "Xena is a sweetheart of a dog. She is very gentle & loving. She also loves to run and play with other dogs. I think she would do best in a home with a large fenced yard & other dogs to play with."
