Kota - Staying With Owner

Vet/Medical Info: The vet's office said “everything's been done” for this puppy.  He has had his rabies and distemper and they are due again in June 2013.  He has not yet been neutered or tested for heartworm because of his age, but his owner just bought a 6 month supply of HW preventitive.  His health is 

“within normal limits” with the exception that the right eye is permanently malformed and both eyes are very small.  The vet's records state that “the owner says he is blind”.  No testing has been done on the eyes. 

Owner Info: Kota is a foster dog that needs a permanent foster/rescue. His breeder sold him as a puppy to someone without telling them he was blind; they were going to get a refund on him but his current caregivers took him instead. They felt previous owner or breeder were not an option due to 

irresponsibility. Kota is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, he is not yet housebroken but is leash trained. He knows the commands sit, down and stay. His caregiver is a dog trainer and also took him through a puppy class for socialization and to overcome fear of different 

floor/ground textures. Kota is an outgoing boy, he is good with people of all ages including children and good with other dogs and cats. At ten weeks of age Kota was food aggressive but he quickly overcame this and he no longer shows any signs of food aggression toward people or animals. 

He takes some time to adjust to new surroundings but adapts well.  Vet believes he was born blind and it was a congenital condition, he has not seen a specialist for any other diagnosis. Aside from his blindness, Kota seems to be in perfect health.
