Molly - In Foster Care

Name:     Molly
Age:        13 years
Breed:     Pit Bull Mix
Sex:        Female (altered)
Location:  Tacoma, WA area

Vet Info:  Molly is confirmed spayed.  She is up to date on vaccines per her owner, but this has not yet been confirmed.  Molly has had three Grand Mal seizures since being with her owners, and is now on Phenobarbital for seizure control.  She appears completely blind (she may see shadows), and her vet discharge papers stated, "Lenticular Sclerosis" and "Primary Ocular Blindness".  Molly is also almost completely deaf.  Molly weighs about 50 pounds.

Owner Info:  Molly is an adorable and sweet girl who was saved from a home where she was kept chained to a refrigerator.  She was in horrible condition when she was picked up, and has now been vetted and is feeling better.  Her good samaritans had always intended to get her healthy and into rescue where she could be adopted as they are not able to keep her.  They have tried several local rescue organizations with no luck due to her disabilities, and they are very much hoping we can help her find a new home!  They have had Molly for about two weeks.

Molly is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.

Molly is good with men and women, and seems to respond well to higher pitched voices.  "Since Molly is almost completely deaf, we have not found her to respond to any commands. She does seem to respond to higher pitched voices, particularly female. When she hears my girlfriend's voice, she will wag her tail and turn to where she was called from."  She is good with both male and female dogs, and currently lives with two other dogs.  Molly is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has not bitten or snapped.

Her owners gave us more details about how she's adjusting:  "It has taken Molly a great deal of time to get used to her room in the house. We have tried to remove all potentially harmful objects, and soften/pad any sharp corners, but she continuously bumps into he surroundings, and doesn't seem to have completely mapped out the area yet after two weeks with us. After her time in the emergency room, she seemed to have to relearn her environment completely."

Molly does have some health issues that her owners have described:  "Molly came to us smelling very strongly of urine, and her back had multiple scabbed areas in her fur that sloughed off during her first bath. Those areas are now growing back with fur.  Her gait is a bit wobbly, particularly in her rear end. She is almost completely deaf. She has had 3 Grand Mal seizures, and is now on Phenobarbital for seizure control.  She can be very anxious, with constant barking and whining without attention, particularly at night. She has a Rx of Trazadone to be taken as needed for anxiety. In addition, because Molly is an older dog, she needs to be let out to urinate every 3-4 hrs, and will bark when she needs to go out."

Even with her history, Molly is a very sweet girl who just wanted to be loved!  "Molly is a very sweet girl, and we feel we absolutely did the right thing by taking her out of the environment she was in before. Unfortunately, her care requires more than we are able to provide. Thank you for your help and consideration."
