Skittles - Adopted

Name: Skittles
Age: 8 ½ years
Breed: Pug / Beagle Mix
Sex: Male (altered)
Location: San Diego, CA

Vet Info: Skittles is confirmed neutered and next due for rabies vaccine on 7/31/16.  He has not been recently heartworm tested.  Skittles weighs about 40 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 7/3/2007. Skittles is an adorable fellow who has become blind in a short period of time.  His owner writes, "At first we thought SARDS, but now I'm thinking that he has Cushings Disease, for what the Dr. told me that some SARDS dogs also get Cushings Disease."  His owner is not able to care for him as he needs, and is very much hoping to find him a new, happy home.  She has asked everyone she knows and has done online searches, but has not had any luck.

Skittles is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  He knows the commands, Sit, Lay, and No, and sometimes he will Drop It!  Skittles even knows to ring the bells on the door if he needs to go out!

Skittles is good with people of all ages.  "He mostly loves people. People he knows and people he has never met. Much prefers people over other animals."  His owner says he's good with female dogs, and gave us more details:  "Some dogs he just gets very agitated around. Mostly bigger dogs, but definitely not all. Never with people."  Skittles can be possessive of toys, treats, or food, and his owner told us that he once snapped at her son trying to get something out of his mouth.

Skittles's owner says his blindness happened very suddenly.  "I believe he is completely blind. It was a very fast onset of whatever caused it. He also seems to have lost his sense of smell."  She also wants us to know he's a very sweet fellow who loves his fruits and vegetables!  "He is a very sweet boy, a little mischievous, at times. Loves to steal paper or napkins from you if he can. Although because he can no longer see I don't think that will continue to be a problem. He always want someones attention and he loves veggies and some fruits. He used to be great at catch, but can no longer do that."
