Ellie - In Therapets, Indiana Rescue

Name: Ellie
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Cairn Terrier
Age: 10 years
Location: Aurora, CO

Vet/Medical Info: Ellie is spayed.  She is up to date on bordatella (next due 12/19/2012) and distemper (next due 6/23/14), but is just now overdue for her rabies vaccine (due 7/2/12).  She is diabetic and is currently under-regulated, so she is going through a series of glucose curves to help regulate her insulin.  She is heartworm negative and is due for her next heartworm test in May, 2013.  Ellie weighs 22 pounds.

Owner Info: DOB 7/25/2002. Ellie recently lost her sight and is having great difficulty getting around her owners' house because it's full of stairs.  Both of them work and so she's left home alone most of the day. She needs more companionship/taking care of now that she's blind.  They describe her as substantially blind, with milky colored dark eyes. They've contacted numerous local no-kill shelters, with no luck.  Ellie is an indoor dog with run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained.  Ellie knows "sit", "come", "stay," and "outside".  Ellie is good with men, women, and children, and both male and female dogs.  She is not possessive of treats, toys, or food, and has never shown any aggression.  Ellie has diabetes that went undiagnosed for a few months, which they think led to her eventual blindness.  Her diabetes has been controlled with twice daily insulin (11 units) and a weight control diet.  She is otherwise healthy.  Ellie's owners are hoping for a situation where somebody needs and wants a good, loving companion that happens to be blind. Ellie is still friendly and finds her away around by feel, smell and sound, of course. Their schedule and house set up just aren't conducive.
