Molly - Staying With Owner

Name: Molly
Sex: Female (altered)
Breed: Labrador/Chow Mix
Age: 8 years
Location: South Pasadena, FL

Vet/Medical Info: Molly is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She’ll be due in June 2013 for rabies, distemper, lepto and bordatella. A heartworm test in June 2012 confirms she’s heartworm negative. She is on Thyroxine for hypothyroidism and just received an antibiotic ointment for a cyst that opened on her tail. They had no other relevant information other than to say she is blind...Verification from January 2011: Last fecal sample taken in 2009. Ophthamologist said Molly suffers from SARDS in
both eyes and is completely blind.

Owner Info: Molly was in our owner surrender system early 2011 but her owner has been trying to do everything she can to be able to keep Molly. She spends a lot of time away from home and her daughter has moved onto college. With her commute to work it’s not fair to Molly to spend so much time alone. She has been with her owner since she was a pup, she got her
from a shelter. Molly is an indoor dog with the run of the house, she is housebroken and leash trained. She can walk Molly without and leash, she comes to her name, comes to the snap of
fingers and her owner guides her that way with new territory. She is an outgoing girl, good with
people of all ages including children and good with male dogs, cats and other small animals.
She has put on 20lbs since she went blind, she use to walk with everyday. Molly is very friendly and loving, but very lonely. She is willing to go and do whatever as long as she trusts you... she
really adapts very well to all the changes that are going on in her owners life. She is such a love,
it would be great for her to bewith a family where there is activity and maybe that one special family member who will love her most…..she is a sweet, well mannered dog, very loyal and
makes you feel so special when you come home.

Update 7/28/2012: Molly's owner will be moving in with her mother by August 13th and is unable to take Molly because the complex has a weight limitation for dogs. Sweet Molly will need to be rehomed before then.

Message from Molly's owner: Molly is an 8-year old black lab mix. My daughter and I rescued her from the Humane Society of Sarasota in 2004. She is a blessing to our family and has the sweetest disposition. She is very good with children. She loves going for walks, car rides, and relaxing at home. Molly has always been on frontline (flea prevention) and Heart-Guard (heart worm prevention). She is also up to date on all her current shots and always has been. Upon request, we will send her records on file. She is a very loving and loyal friend. About a year and a half ago, Molly was diagnosed with SARDS (Sudden Acute Retinal Disorder Syndrome). This is sudden blindness. The specialist explained this disorder occurs within female dogs (no specific breed) that are over the age of 6, making Molly the perfect candidate. Molly has adapted very well given the circumstances. She comes to certain commands. For example, when she is walking around in new areas she trusts her own instincts but also listens for her commands. She is spayed and has a microchip in case she were to ever go missing. Due to my new living situation, I am unable to have Molly because of weight limitations. We are looking for a loving and supporting home and/or family.
