Hercules - Adopted

Name: Hercules
Sex: Male (altered - per owner)
Breed: Pit Bull Heeler mix
Age: 2 1/2 years
Location: Cedar Park, TX

Vet/Medical Info: Hercules is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative, per his owner.  Hercules weighs 50 pounds.
Owner Info:  Hercules's owner needs to find him a new home for two reasons. First, her landlord is set on not allowing him to stay in her home because he is a pit mix. Secondly, she cannot afford to take him to a vet and he needs help. Every day one of his eyes fully dilates while the other one doesn't. If not, they seem puffy and swollen. She knows it affects his sight because he seems more scared at night and will bark more at noises.  During the day he sometimes seems startled to realize someone was beside him and may growl.  He will also snap when it's night time and he is sleeping and you wake him up.  He has bitten her when he is startled, but has never torn skin.  She believes it's more like a warning.  She has held on to him as long as she can, trying to find him help, but now her landlord said if he doesn't go then they have to move. She is a single mom with 6 kids, one of her boys is quite ill, and she can't afford to move.  She has tried several local rescues with no luck.   Hercules is an indoor dog with run of the house, he is housebroken and leash trained.  When he is walked, he loves to have people give him attention!  He knows "sit", "down", and even tries to give his paw sometimes!  According to his owner, he is good with men, women, and children, and both male and female dogs, but has been more easily startled lately.   His owner says that he is an awesome dog.   Her children have even painted his toenails!  He can be a bit hyper at times, but he loves being around people. What ever the kids do he is usually in the middle of it too, although recently if the kids play and get too loud, he seems scared and will get in the middle and growl.  Currently, he is not allowed to sleep in anyone's room, be on the couch, and he gets put up in the kennel when kids are playing in the house. His owner knows he feels the difference, and says he seems sad and confused and unsure if it's OK to be by you anymore when he approaches.  She thinks that he would do best in a home with another dog for companionship, otherwise he would have a hard time being left alone.  His owner says that if she were able, she would rather move than rehome him.
